“Three Dream Songs” wins British Horn Society Composition Prize

My piece for unaccompanied solo horn, Three Dream Songs, has won the British Horn Society Composition Prize 2025. The premiere performance, by the excellent Tommaso Rusconi, coincided with the announcement of the award on 30th November 2025 as part of the British Horn Festival and the publication of the piece by edition db.

The piece is inspired by the poetry of the Native American Wintu people, with its imagery of dreams, flowers, travels along the Milky Way and spirits rising above like dandelion puffs, and explores many of the horn’s contrasting colours and roles, from intimate lyricism to outdoor calls to attention, allowing the performer to create a real sense of theatricality and storytelling.

You can order the piece from edition db here, and I hope to share a recording online very soon.
