Premiere of “Message-Fragments in Honour of Giles Swayne” on 1st February

The brilliant violinist José Cabrita Matias will premiere my new piece, Message-Fragments in Honour of Giles Swayne, in the Angela Burgess Recital Hall of the Royal Academy of Music in a lunchtime concert on Tuesday 1st February (more info here). The 12-minute piece was commissioned as part of the 200 Pieces project celebrating the 200th anniversary of the Royal Academy of Music, and honours one of its alumni: the brilliant composer Giles Swayne, who studied there in the late 1960s. Giles, my former composition teacher and current friend, has shown me extraordinary kindness and generosity over many years, and this piece has been written by small way of thanks. It will be premiered alongside a new work by Deborah Pritchard, also commissioned for the project, and Beethoven’s String Quartet Op 135. Tickets are free but must be booked in advance here, and you can view the score of the piece on the “Works” page of this website.
